EVENTS — Upcoming

Pacific Northwest UCC Men's Retreat
The annual Pacific Northwest UCC Men's Retreat will take place the weekend of February 3-5, 2012 at Pilgrim Firs. The speaker will be Tom Colwell and the theme will be "Music That Matters: Men Sharing Their Hearts". There will be a Day of Silence from February 2-3. More information is available in the narthex. Scholarships are available.
Sacred Earth Matters
The Sacred Earth Matters group is sponsoring a recycling event at our church on Saturday, February 4, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parking lot on the corner of 15th and 45th. A flyer is attached to this announcement that you can print out and hopefully tell all of your neighbors about so we can advertise it as widely as possible. This flyer will also be in your next Church and Home. Click here for a copy of the flyer.
2012 Mix-Sups
Sharing a meal is a great way to connect with new people in our church community, and Mix-Sups is a great way to share a meal! People are mixed and matched up with others for one dinner per month in February, March, April and May. Each month, one person or couple host a total of eight people. The host provides the main dish, while the six to seven guests are asked to bring a side dish. You can sign up as a couple, with a friend, or on your own. If you cannot host a meal, that's okay — you'll be matched with people who can! For more information, click here. Lisa Coleman at beanrhit@comcast.net, is 2012 Mix-Sups chair.
2013 Women's Retreat
Another wonderful Women's Retreat has come and gone. Stay tuned here for information on the upcoming 2013 Retreat. Remember that donations to the scholarship fund are always welcome so that all who want to participate are able to do so. To make scholarship donations, contact Rebecca Rickabaugh (206) 524-5786 or rjrickabaugh8470@gmail.com.

EVENTS — Ongoing

Taizé Worship Service
Taizé services are held on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. in the Chapel. Join us for this meditative mid-week service, followed by a soup and bread supper at 6:45 p.m.
The Listening Group
This is a small discernment team created by four at-large members of the Executive Council, Mary Paananen, John Lewis, Carol Christoferson and Kmbris Bond, with Virginia Felton and staff liaison Amy Roon. The group is charged with listening deeply to this congregation and to God's call for us. Their intention is to evaluate the information they receive and develop three goals for the church over the next three to five years. If you would like a member of the Listening Group to attend your group or event or if you have something to share personally, please contact them through their dedicated email listening-group@ucucc.org. You may also learn more about this group by clicking here.
Fellowship Breakfasts
Please join us for fellowship breakfasts in the church lounge every Sunday 8:45-9:45 a.m. through May 20th. Drop in for nourishing food, creative activities, supervision for children, and the opportunity to connect with your church family. All ages are welcome. Please contact Mary Paananen at mspaanen@earlthlink.net for more information and to volunteer to help.
Senior Luncheon
Please join us for the senior lunch on the second Monday of each month. The next one is Monday, February 13, 2012 beginning at 11:45 a.m. with lunch following at noon in the lounge. There is often a speaker or program, but mostly it is just to share food and conversation.
Theology Book Group
Theology Book Group meets on the first Wednesday of each month. The next meeting of the Theology Book Group will be Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 7:30 p.m., in the library. We will be reading What Would Jesus Deconstruct, by John Caputo.
Third Thursday Men's Group
The Third Thursday Group is a new men's lunch group that gathers, you guessed it, on the third Thursday of the month at 11:30 a.m. in the church lounge. This is a fellowship and conversation group with no agenda other than what comes up — plus a simple soup, bread and cheese meal. All men who want a short break from whatever they are doing are welcome. Next gathering is Thursday, February 16, 2012. Please give Greg Turner a call at 206-525-8885 or an email at revsturner@aol.com if you are coming. Thanks.
Crafts & Conversation
Crafts & Conversation is an opportunity to work on your arts and crafts projects with other creative individuals. Come to the church lounge on the third Friday of each month at 5:30 p.m. The next gathering will be on February 17, 2012.
All Women Extraordinary Dinner
All women are invited to the All Women Extraordinary (AWE) dinner on the fourth Monday of each month at 6 p.m. in the lounge. The next dinner will be held on February 27, 2012. You don’t have to bring anything, food is provided—just come and be nourished with old friends and new friends.
Inviting All Parents of Youth
Please join moderators Susan Ovens and Trudi Picciano Sunday mornings at 9 a.m. this fall in Room 302 upstairs for a drop-in circle, Spiritual Parenting of Teens. Here parents of middle and high school kids can share the questions, concerns, and joys of spiritual parenting with fellow travelers. See you there!
The Parent Group
The Parent Group meets at the Burke Café on the second and last Sunday of each month at 9 a.m. The Parent Group is a support group for families who have a child, youth or young adult with learning disabilities or any type of special need. New members are always welcome to join us. In addition to our twice monthly meetings on Sundays at 9 a.m., members gather once a month in the evening or weekends. The Parent Group is also available as a resource for families who need ideas, networking or referrals. For more information or to join our email list and receive reminders of meetings, contact Tina Michalak at tinabina54@comcast.net or (206) 789-3614.
