»University Congregational UCC Chancel Choir

To borrow a theme from St. James' web site, the largest choir in our community is the one that raises its voice in song during hymns, responses and prayer each week: the congregation.  The Chancel Choir supports the congregational choir in worship and provides its own form of prayer, engagement and meditation in the form of the anthem and offertory.

History

The UCUCC Chancel Choir continues a proud tradition of choral excellence. Past directors of the ensemble include former Seattle Symphony Chorale director Robert Scandrett and noted composer/conductor Roupen Shakarian. Guest conductors included nationally reknowned composers Daniel Moe and Jester Hairston. The ensemble has completed several performance tours, both domestic and foreign.

Section leaders

Each section of the choir has a leader who serves as a coordinator for the singers in that section. Choir members are asked to let their section leader know if they will be unable to attend choir practice or Sunday service. Section leaders are:

Tenor John Coleman maintains a roster for choir members that is e-mailed to choir members on request. Contact John at 206-324-2170 or e-mail John if your roster information needs to be updated or if you need a new roster.

Choir Members are church leaders

In addition to contributing their musical gifts to enhance Sunday morning worship, choir members participate fully in the life of the church by serving on boards and contributing their talents in other ways.

Dottie Smith and Kathy Young represent our choir ministry on the Music and Worship Board, along with Heidi Blythe.

Vicki Farmer chairs the Fellowship Board.

John Lewis is currently serving on the Council as Past Moderator. Choir members Don Mallett, Alan Klockars and Virginia Felton have also served as Church Moderators.
