Mwanzo: a blessing for a sign of hope
Our Mwanzo family in Rabuor is gathered in the picture below to bless the ground which has been prepared for the Community Center.
The center is really needed now, because the first students in the school (now the Mwanzo Wetu Center of Excellence Academy) are entering 8th grade. A new safe indoor space is needed for the Early Childhood Development program, which was previously housed in the school building.
We will also house a health clinic, in partnership with Chulaimbo Health Center, which will provide treatment for minor health problems several days each week for the school and community members. Importantly, it will provide a place for ill students to rest and free up teachers’ time for teaching. A library and computer lab with internet and copier will serve the school, and also be a great help for villagers in accessing government programs and services as well as job information. And a large multipurpose room will provide space for many school and community functions.
Most importantly, the center will amplify the hope that gives us all purpose, strength, courage, boldness, endurance, comfort and confidence, even in the face of a pandemic. Hope changes how we see ourselves and what we value, and brings us joy and peace.
