The Council of the University Congregational United Church of Christ met on 15 February, 2023 via Zoom. A quorum was noted at 7:04 pm and the meeting was called to order by Ed Coleman.
After a reading of our land acknowledgement and a prayer led by Pastor Amy and Pastor Steve,
everyone participated in a circle of sharing of something we love about UCUCC.
Pastor Amy led us through a grounding exercise, each sharing our thoughts in response to the parable of the talents.
Council approved:
Minutes from the January Council Meeting
AIR Form #3 “Account Authorization Book Keeping”
AIR Form #4 “Minister Housing Allowance Approval”
Council reviewed ministry reports and updates from Ministry liaisons
The Settled Pastor Search Committee updated Council on the current status – candidate interviews are underway, and the committee is very excited about the quality of the candidates. We had some discussion about the ability of our congregation to support a 3rd pastor given our recent budget deficits. Ed Coleman has initiated an effort to create a document to share with the congregation addressing concerns about our congregation’s ability to support a third pastor.
Asset Enhancement Task Force is working on a document outlining all the various assets of our church and congregation. Our path forward depends on our vision for where we want to be in 5-10 years. Assets can be lumped into 5 categories and all are being considered. Assets include physical property, employees, the congregation, relationships in the community, and lastly, reputation.
Council also received a Budget update from Kyna and Don Guthrie
Council approved two actions:
Balance sheet transfer to cover the 2022 expected operating budget deficit so that the 2022 books can be closed.
Extending the contract for our Racial Justice Consultants to continue to work with us in 2023.
To close the meeting, we went around the room sharing a thought or response to the evening. We joined hands in prayer and Pastor Steve prayed us out.
