You may remember that each year in December our special offering is devoted to the support of the Christmas Fund and the Emergency Fund of the United Church of Christ. The offering is directed toward aiding retired clergy and lay employees with supplementary checks during the Christmas season and made available to clergy and lay persons as a reinforcement in times of financial emergencies via the Emergency Fund.
Your contribution to the offering is particularly important to sustain our clergy. For example, last year, checks were distributed to 231 retired clergy and lay employees as supplements to monthly pensions in the amount of $1,104,479. Health benefits supplementation for 87 retired clergy and lay employees amounted to $177,600. Emergency grants for 53 individuals and families were $150,338 and Christmas “Thank You” gift checks to 509 retired clergy and lay employees were $254,000.
The generosity of members of the United Church of Christ like yourself brought solace and peace of mind to those who have ministered to us. It helped to make their year and their holidays a time of overwhelming joy instead of worry and anxiety.
Your offerings are very much appreciated.
When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. Matthew 2:10
