In our journey of aging we often find ourselves slowing down physically. This can offer us the opportunity to go inward and to deepen into our essence – to the Divine within us – a true gift and one that can be enhanced at this time of retreat from much of what usually occupies us.
The following poem by Wendell Berry reminds us of the small but important steps in the spiritual journey.
A Spiritual Journey
And the world cannot be discovered by a journey of miles,
no matter how long,
but only by a spiritual journey,
a journey of one inch,
very arduous and humbling and joyful,
by which we arrive at the ground at our feet,
and learn to be at home.
