After months of meeting and learning, listening and laughing, Gathering Ground’s core community is delighted to share a new structure for our group. We have been following a system of community-based organizing known as Sociocracy. It is used by non-profits, activists, residential communities, and even some businesses. Sociocracy’s aim is to share power while assuring accountability to our primary aim; it is horizontal and consensus-based.
We revisited and refreshed our mission: Gathering Ground provides community for people of many beliefs – and on many journeys – to forge and share meaning. We also created an aim, a description of how we carry out our mission: We share tools for participating in activities, then reflect, listen, and share our discoveries. Together we take a journey inward to truth and a journey outward to the world. Do stuff. Reflect. Connect.
The new structure includes four circles of our primary activities: 1) Gatherings & Programs, 2) Community Connections, 3) Admin, and 4) Fundraising, a seasonal circle. We are starting to welcome members into these 4 circles. If you are interested in joining into this community-effort by joining a circle or a future gathering, please contact Beth at GathrinGround.Seattle@gmail.com or 206-880-3641.
