The January, 2023 Special Offering supports the 45th Street Clinic and Neighbor Care. UCUCC has a long-term relationship with these organizations, and with the growth of our homeless population, our support meets critical needs.
The 45th Street Clinic, located in the Wallingford area of NE Seattle, is well-known for its services to homeless and marginalized teens and youth, aged 12-26. Recognizing that 41% of homeless youth present as LBGTQTA, the 45th Street Clinic is one of the few Seattle programs qualified to address the unique challenges affecting these youth. Another unique program is the provision of veterinary services to those living without homes. Providing effective care to pets can also provide a pathway to services to youth who mistrust authority. Overall, the clinic serves over 200 youth per year with a wide range of services.
The 45th Street Clinic is affiliated with Neighbor Care, which has served unserved populations in our community for over 50 years. This affiliation allows access to a broader range of services, such as care for illnesses and injuries, ongoing health conditions, pediatrics, family medicine vaccinations, nutrition counseling, STI/HIV, lab tests, pharmacy, medical referrals, gender-affirmation, and alcohol, drug and smoking issues. Since the clinic has traditionally served a population with no insurance or financial resources, and is often living without homes, youth would most likely remain among the under-served without this vital community resource.
