Every day we read and hear of death and destruction in Ukraine as Russian military forces bomb even hospitals, schools and civilians on city streets. ICRC has been there from the beginning with its trained resident teams greatly augmented in March and in refugee receiving countries such as Poland, Hungary and Moldova. We will ask that our giving be used to support refugees as they search for a home until they can really go home again.
We chose ICRC rather than other wonderful agencies serving there because it is also
present in many countries where natural and political disasters have placed people in jeopardy. ICRC is in Yemen where, on top of the ravages of seven years of infighting, there is widespread hunger. This year will turn hunger into famine if the current climate does not change for normal crop production. In Afghanistan, in spite of the political situation, ICRC is working with the Ministries of Public Health and Higher Education to support thirty-three hospitals and teaching hospitals across the country. ICRC is able to use 93.5 % of its contributions, an unusually high amount, to fund its work around the world.
Whether in Ukraine or in countries where human need is desperate because of unpredictable disasters, our contributions will join with others to bring relief. For your giving, for the people who will receive your help… thank you! Please give online at www.universityucc.org by clicking on the Give button, or logging into MyUCUCC and going to the Give section. Or, send a check to UCUCC, noting on the memo line “April Special Offering.”
