Our Mission: To cultivate opportunities through education and community-driven development in Rabuor Village, Kenya, and neighboring communities.
If you’re reading this, you surely must be one of the beloved benefactors who have embraced our vision for a restored Rabuor and the nearby communities whom we have been partnering with for more than ten years now. In last month’s Church and Home article, I spoke of mature hope. This month, I want to address our vision and how it is taking shape.
It’s an audacious vision to imagine a vibrant, restored Rabuor and beyond when times are difficult due to the impacts of climate change and the war in Ukraine. And yet, in a little more than ten years and against all odds, the community in Rabuor has built a school, launched numerous entrepreneurial programs as well as savings and loan groups, health initiatives, restorative farming and forestry programs, and now has made significant progress on the building of a community center that will bring just the kinds of services that will support vibrant communities for generations to come.
When you read this, our 6th and 8th grade students will have just completed their first national exams given from November 28th to 30th. In order to offer new beginnings for generations to come, we dream of sending every one of our MWCEA graduates on to secondary school. We continue to expand our programs in academics, agricultural education, athletics, and now music! Recently our students have received recorders, trombones, trumpets, drums, a tambourine, and a keyboard. Oh, what joy we’ve seen in the past with our community singing and dancing with gratitude and delight. Just think of the joy of training young band members and celebrating our love and devotion to each other through this amplified music program. Let us all be joyful and continue to develop our connection through prayer, connection (check out our website, Mwanzo.org) and through our faithful generosity.
You’ve likely received the Mwanzo Christmas letter and other information through the mail recently. We had a lovely work party putting these together for you, and they are filled with exciting news of progress and dreams for the future. Bringing the Mwanzo community to mind lifts my heart, and hope, and vision for justice and ubuntu every day.
