Our November special offering focuses on the worldwide hunger crisis which now threatens to turn into famine for many. Hunger is extreme in too many locations, and has been substantially increased by the war in Ukraine. Food, fuel, and fertilizer usually shipped to India and African countries have not been sent, and Ukraine needs food itself.
We chose CARE and The Hunger Project as our co-recipients in an effort to help in as many places as possible. Each organization focuses relief efforts in different countries and populations.
CARE maintains a huge and complex organization to support the best methods to reduce and control these hunger tragedies. Among the methods CARE supports are viewing children as key to reducing hunger. If food can be given to them at school and at other locations they can be adequately nourished.
The Hunger Project works cooperatively with women’s groups, community organizations, and governments to address and solve the problems causing hunger. They focus on systemic change in 22 countries, including those experiencing hunger crises. Their strategy is to start with women, to mobilize community building on local strengths. If possible, the Hunger Project will also engage and work with the government.
Thank you for your life-saving gift to many families and people who otherwise would have no food.
Please give online or send a check to UCUCC, noting on the memo line “November Special Offering”.
