The Visiting Theologian is a shared ministry of the congregation supported by the UCUCC Lecture Series, Christian Formation for Adults, and Worship and Music. We are excited to host Rev. Yolanda Norton as our visiting theologian for 2021-2022. Her year with us is mapped out in three sections:
Unit 1: Orientation – The summer of 2021 will be an shared orientation of Rev. Norton to the congregation and the congregation to the work Rev. Norton is leading. This will include preaching, consulting with some committees and leadership, and Liberation Academy, a four-session online class on liberation, Black liberation and Womanist theology.
Unit 2: Development – Kicking off the fall, the UCUCC Lecture Series will host The Beyoncé Mass as an online worship on Friday, September 24. The fall will also see the introduction of train-the-trainer opportunities for leading Bible study with a Womanist lens and continuing consulting and preaching.
Unit 3: Capacity Building From January through Easter, the focus of Rev. Norton’s work will shift toward implementing a theological framework of Liberation throughout the congregation and our connections in the city. With teaching and preaching still a cornerstone, we will also work toward asset mapping and community engagement.
